PARAUMBILICAL HERNIA

A Paraumbilical Hernia is a type of hernia that occurs near the belly button (umbilicus). It develops near the umbilicus either above, below or directlu adjacent to the belly button (Umbilicus).

CAUSES

Often caused by increased pressure in the abdomen, which can be due to factors such as Obesity, pregnancy, heavy lifting or persistent coughing.

SYMPTOMS

Noticeable bulge or lump near the belly button (Umbilicus) that may disappear when lying down and reappear when standing or straining.

Pain or discomfort may present with pulling type of pain,especially when bending over, lifting or coughing.

A feeling of heaviness or pressure in the abdomen.

Complications can arise if the hernia becomes trapped leading to pain, nausea, vomiting and potentially requiring an emergency surgery.
