Gallbladder Surgery is a surgical way performed to remove the gallbladder. It is usually performed when hard pigments called gallstones form in the gallbladder, causing pain and discomfort.

The gallbladder is a small sack, roughly the shape and size of a pear that sits underneath the liver, on the right side of the abdomen. Its main purpose is to store and essence bile produced by the liver. Bile is released from the gallbladder after eating, aiding digestion. Bile travels through common bile ducts into the small intestine.

The two main types of gallstones are:

Cholesterolstones: Usually yellow-green in color, approximately 85% of gallstones are cholesterol stones.

Pigment stones: These stones are smaller and darker and are made up of bilirubin.
